Greatswords sit between faster one-handed options and the heaviest weapon families. They can work in Strength, Dexterity or hybrid setups depending on requirements and the specific weapon.
What to compare first
- Moveset: whether normal attacks feel comfortable against the enemies you actually fight.
- Reach: useful for spacing and punishing openings without standing directly on top of a target.
- Stat requirements: avoid forcing extra levels into stats the rest of the build does not use.
- Weapon skill: treat the skill as part of the weapon, not a separate bonus.
Strength versus Dexterity fit
Do not assume every greatsword belongs to one stat archetype. Start from the build's current attributes and compare weapons that naturally fit that investment before considering a respec.
Boss use
Greatswords can be comfortable when a boss gives medium-length punish windows: enough time for a meaningful hit without requiring the commitment of the slowest weapon classes.
Upgrade before judging
A familiar upgraded weapon often performs better than a new drop that has not been brought to the same upgrade stage. Compare like with like before replacing a working setup.
